Research Training Group “Statistical Modeling in Psychology”
Statistical models are simplified (i.e. based on assumptions) mathematical descriptions of relationships between different quantities (variables). They are derived from observed data using statistical methods and are intended to optimally reflect underlying real structures and processes.
The Research Training Group is based in the Department of Psychology and builds a bridge between many different sub-disciplines of Psychology, including Memory Psychology, Decision Research, Attention Research, Social Psychology and Work and Organizational Psychology. Doctoral students will develop statistical models for these areas to investigate psychological issues in greater depth using empirical methods. In addition to the University of Mannheim, which acts as the host university, the universities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, Koblenz-Landau and Tübingen are also involved in the education of doctoral students. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is providing four million euros in funding for the education of doctoral students in the field of “Statistical Modeling in Psychology.”
