According to the BMBF, the Federal Government's draft law is intended to mitigate the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic on students and young scientists.
Provided that the Bundestag agrees, the regulations are to take effect retroactively as of March 1, 2020. Further information on the planned changes to the law can be found in the BMBF press release.
