International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Since 1993, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been observed every year on 3 December to raise awareness of their concerns. At the University of Mannheim, diversity is lived and the rights and concerns of people with disabilities are taken into account.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a commitment to the inclusion of people with disabilities. They are still disadvantaged in society and face prejudices and obstacles. Information and awareness of the need for improvement are essential.

The Department of Equal Opportunity and Social Diversity draws attention to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, because the diversity of university members is part of the University’s self-image. In order to live this diversity even better, the University of Mannheim is currently going through the two-year audit process “Vielfalt gestalten” and everyone is invited to contribute throughout the entire period!

In order to ensure that students and employees have a barrier-free environment for their studies or work at the University of Mannheim, there are various measures to reduce barriers. In recent years, thanks to the cooperation of many committed people and the adaptation of legal regulations, some obstacles have already been reduced. Members of the university with (severe) disabilities and their closest relatives can contact the university representatives for employees/students with a disability with their questions at any time.
