Mourning after Shooting in Prague

Statement of the University of Mannheim of 22 December:

“It was with deep dismay and horror that we received the news of the senseless act of violence that was committed at Charles University in Prague yesterday.

It is difficult to comprehend that such terrible incidents can happen at a place where people from different generations and nations come together to learn, discuss ideas, and shape their future.

Our thoughts are with the students killed and their families, as well as with those injured and their relatives. We also extend our sympathy to all those who have had to witness what happened at close range. We hope that those injured recover quickly and would like to express our sincere condolences to all those affected, students, teachers and employees of the Charles University and wish them much strength for the coming days and weeks.

Charles University is a long-term, valued partner of the University of Mannheim. All Mannheim students who were in Prague at the time of the rampage are well.”
