Press release June 2, 2023

The goal of the German-French Sustainability Dialogue is to encourage researchers, students and other interested parties from both countries to exchange ideas on the topic of sustainability. This year's Dialogue, entitled “Shaping the Future Sustainably from the Transparency of the Past – Historical, Economic and Cultural Aspects”, aims through its program to explicitly address students and society, especially interested parties from the Mannheim region.

The panels, which took place on October 6 and featured equal numbers of German and French speakers, form the core of the event. The three moderators from the University of Mannheim also deal with sustainability in their respective research: Prof. Dr. Annette Kehnel, Prorector for Studies and Teaching and Professor of Medieval History, moderated the first panel on “We could also do things differently – what can we learn from history? The second panel on “Sustainability in Culture and the Creative Industries” was chaired by Prof. Dr. Eva Martha Eckkrammer, Professor of Romance Linguistics and Media Studies and Vice President of the Franco-German University. Finally, Prof. Stefan Reichelstein, Ph.D., Director of the “Mannheim Institute for Sustainable Energy Studies” (MISES) and Professor of General Business Administration, moderated the panel on “Economic Sustainability.” On the panel, the researchers discussed with other scientists and cultural figures from Mannheim, Mainz, Nantes and Toulouse, among others. In addition to the panels, Mannheim student initiatives on sustainability also presented themselves and a “Festival for Sustainability” with the band “Sales Gosses” is planned.

The program is aimed at all interested members of the university as well as citizens of Mannheim. The events took place in the auditorium of the University of Mannheim in German as well as French with simultaneous translation. Participation in the event is free of charge, but registration is required as the number of participants is limited.
