Joachim Herz Prize for socially relevant, interdisciplinary research or transfer projects in economics.

The Joachim Herz Foundation is offering the Joachim Herz Prize for socially relevant, interdisciplinary research or transfer projects in economics. The research prize, endowed with 500,000 euros, is aimed at researchers in an early career phase. The funding enables the award winners to deepen their research or to pursue the transfer of their research projects into practical applications.

Who is eligible for funding?

Early career researchers (doctoral candidates and postdocs) who are working in an interdisciplinary context and whose doctorate was awarded no more than six years ago at the end of the application period. Applications are open to researchers who are employed at a research institution in Germany for the duration of the funding. Individual researchers or a group of researchers can be awarded.

What is eligible for funding?

Interdisciplinary projects from the field of economics that are geared towards the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3)
  • Quality Education (SDG 4)
  • Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9)
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) 
  • Climate Action (SDG 13)

When is the application deadline?

4 October 2023.

Application process

The two-stage application process includes pre-selection by a jury and a personal presentation of the pre-selected projects in the end of November/beginning of December 2023.
