Abstract:
What are the political, social, and economic ingredients of a green energy transition? And how do they play out domestically and internationally? This talk explores the myriad tradeoffs of moving too fast or too slow in an energy transition. We will span transitions of local fossil fuel producing communities to geopolitical negotiations around climate policies such as the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and industrial policy investments by China. Perspectives from business, politics, and broader society all highlight challenging tradeoffs of any approach or policy.”
