Baden-Württemberg/North Carolina Exchange Program – Faculty Mobility Program
In view of the successful cooperation between the German federated state of Baden-Württemberg and the state of North Carolina, it is intended to place more focus on the collaboration between researchers. For the year 2026, the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg will therefore give out grants for travel expenses for short research stays, which are intended to help establish new collaborations and strengthen existing partnerships.
Researchers from the nine research universities in Baden-Württemberg and the participating universities in North Carolina who are interested in establishing closer cooperations with partners in the other state and who want to be actively involved in the BW/
Funding period/
For short-term stays of at least one week at one of the participating universities in North Carolina or Baden-Württemberg in the year 2026, a one-time fixed rate of EUR 1,200 will be granted.
Application
A complete application must include the following documents:
- the application form,
- a CV including a list of publications (in English),
- a detailed project description including the reasons for choosing the host/
hosting institution and a statement on the importance of the trip for future collaboration (max. 3 pages, in English), - the invitation letter from the host.

Within Baden-Württemberg, the University of Mannheim is responsible for coordinating the collaboration of the German federated state with the US state of North Carolina.
Application deadline and further procedure
The application deadline is 15 October 2025. In cooperation with the coordination offices of the University of Mannheim and the University of North Carolina Greensboro, the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts of Baden-Württemberg will decide on the allocation of the travel grants by December 2025.
