Enabling innovation and fostering transfer: Structures for digital teaching at the University of Mannheim

The digitalization of teaching is an important strategic goal of the University of Mannheim to promote internationalization and support the academic success of its students. In July 2021, the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre (foundation for innovation in higher education teaching) has provided the University of Mannheim with around 2.7 million euros for the InnoMA project. The project aims at extending existing digital teaching formats and establishing new formats.

The financial means received allowed us to create a funds in the amount of 1.1 million euros which willl provide teachers with the freedom to develop digital innovations. During the next three years, all teachers at the University of Mannheim are eligible to design projects on the digitalization of teaching and to apply for InnoMA funding. Funding is available for small and bigger projects and amounts to a maximum of 75,000 euros for individual projects and a maximum of 100,000 euros for joint projects.

The funding aims at supporting ideas that can also be used in an international setting and, in particular, strengthen the university alliance ENGAGE.EU, in which Mannheim is a member since 2020.
