funding line “Research Seed Capital” of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts

The Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden Württemberg funds early-career researchers with its funding program Research Seed Capital (RiSC).

Purpose
This program aims at enabling postdoctoral researchers to conduct risky individual projects or preliminary studies for subsequent innovative research proposals. The focus lies on new research fields beyond established ways of thinking.

Target Group
Postdoctoral researchers of all fields.

Project Requirements
Independent research project with a high level of innovation.

Amount of Funding
The overall budget of the project can be up to EUR 100,000. The Ministry will provide half of the budget. The University’s research fund will cover 25 % of the budget. The chair/institute of the applicant must usually cover another 25 % of the budget. Exceptions need to be clarified prior to the submission of the proposal (see contact person below).
The University of Mannheim is eligible to submit two projects to the Ministry.

Use of funding
There are no restrictions on spending the money (while adhering to the usual budgetary guidelines). It is not possible to fund the applicant’s own position.

Funding period
The funding period is usually two years.

Deadline
Proposals are to be submitted to the Vice-President Research, Prof. Henning Hillmann, PhD, via Katharina Bolle (Division I), until 1 March 2024.

Start of Funding
Subject to the allocation of funds by the Ministry, funding will start on 1 August 2024. A later start is possible.
