Migration und Mitgestaltung
Migration is a central and controversial subject of our time. But the debate about migration and its consequences extends goes far beyond recent developments and the increase in immigration from 2015. Since the 1950s, when the first so-called “guest workers” arrived, migration has been a recurring theme in political, social and cultural discourse. Mannheim's urban society, in which almost half of the people have a migration bakcground, is a particular reflection of this diversity.
Are you interested in a fair, differentiated and multifaceted discussion on the topic of migration? Are you interested in a dialog between science and urban society at eye level? Then join the Shifting Perspectives team to visit different places in Mannheim where the topic will be examined from different perspectives. The program starts with an interactive performance workshop on “Migration and Protest” at the Kunsthalle. In the evening, there will be a panel discussion with lecturers from the University of Mannheim and representatives of civil society. The program will conclude on Thursday with a guided tour of the Bundesgartenschau, which will take participants to a new site of remembrance for guest workers. The event will be held in German.
