MISES supports rnv in conversion to hydrogen buses

The Mannheim Institute for Sustainable Energy Studies (MISES) has been awarded the contract to provide scientific support for a project of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The aim of the project is to convert the bus fleet of the local transport operator rnv to hydrogen and fuel cell technology.

The state government is funding the “H2 Rhine-Neckar” project in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region with 20 million euros as part of the Automotive Industry Strategy Dialog. This is intended to advance hydrogen and fuel cell technology in Baden-Württemberg. As part of the project, the local public transport operator Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv) plans to convert its entire bus fleet to zero-emission buses.

The Mannheim Institute for Sustainable Energy Studies (MISES) at the University of Mannheim, together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), has been awarded the contract to provide scientific support for the conversion of the rnv bus fleet as part of the project. While KIT will focus on the technical design of the conversion, MISES will investigate its economic efficiency on the basis of life cycle costs. The subproject at the University of Mannheim is funded by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy Management of Baden-Württemberg with 504,000 euros.
