Subject-Specific Semester

Subject-specific semesters indicate how long you have been enrolled in a specific degree program. If you take an academic leave of absence lasting a semester, or change your degree program, that semester is not counted as a subject-specific semester. So, for example, taking an academic leave of absence during your third semester means that when you return to the university, it will be your fourth semester enrolled at a German higher education institution, but your third subject-specific semester.
