  • What is studyconnect and what is it used for?

    Studyconnect is a digital platform that facilitates forming interdisciplinary study groups among students through automated matching with fellow students.

  • Who can use studyconnect?

    Every student who is enrolled at the University of Mannheim can use studyconnect.

  • How do I log into studyconnect?

    To use studyconnect, simply log in on the login page with your university ID. You are already familiar with this process from other sites such as Portal² or ILIAS.

  • What personal data does studyconnect require and who has access?

    Studyconnect has access to the following data via an interface to Portal², which is stored within the application:

    • First name
    • Last name
    • Uni-ID
    • E-mail address
    • Courses and modules you are enrolled in

    Primarily, the studyconnect support team within the University IT has access to the data.

    Data is shared with the individuals responsible for studyconnect at the Center for Teaching and Learning of the University of Mannheim when there is a legitimate interest.

    Please also note the data protection declaration of the University of Mannheim regarding the website.

    An active Microsoft Teams account is required, to use studyconnect. The privacy policy of Microsoft 365 at the University of Mannheim applies to the use of MS Teams.

  • I forgot my university ID password, what do I do?

    If you have forgotten your university ID password, please refer to this page for further instructions.

  • How do I change my profile data?

    You cannot change the core data yourself. If you would like to edit your data, because they are no longer correct, please contact your Student Services office.

    You can change the data under “About me” at any time by selecting different options. Remember to click “save”.

  • How do I delete my profile?

    If you want to delete your profile, go to the “Profile” page and click on “Delete profile” at the bottom of the page.

  • Who can see my data?

    Your information (e.g. under “About me”) is only visible to you, meaning your study group partners and other students cannot access it.

    Primarily, the studyconnect support team within the University IT has access to the data.

  • Why do I need MS Teams?

    Teams is required for studyconnect in order to ensure that all participants have a uniform communication tool. This solution is practical as MS Teams is available to all students at the University of Mannheim.

    This ensures that you can communicate with your study group. In addition, you can share files and conduct video calls on Teams.

    Ultimately, it is up to your study group to decide which communication tool to use.

  • How do I get access to Microsoft Teams to communicate with my study group?

  • How do I find a study group?

    First, make sure you have filled in all the information under “About me” and activated your Teams account. Next, click on the “New Search” button. Complete the information in the new window and click on “Start search”. The algorithm now searches for study group partners that match your criteria. As soon as we have found a study group for you, you will receive an e-mail.

  • How are study groups formed?

    After you have submitted a request for a study group, the algorithm searches for suitable study group partners for you. The selection is based on the information you provided under “My Search” and “About me”.

    Particularly parameters such as diligence, learning level, motivation and target grade are used for matching. Deviations between two searches are checked and similar candidates are matched. Furthermore, the specified preferred study times are relevant for the formation of a group.

  • Can I choose who I want to be in a study group with?

    No, the matching process is automated to ensure that individuals are well-matched based on the information provided.

  • How many people are in a study group?

    Study groups on studyconnect consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of five people.

  • How do I contact my study group partners?

    Communication with your study group takes place on Microsoft Teams. As soon as we have found a study group for you, you will receive an e-mail. In this e-mail, you will find a link to join the study group on Microsoft Teams.
    Alternatively, you can access your study group request on studyconnect and click on the “Go to chat” button under the details.

  • Are there any rules for friendly communication on studyconnect?

  • If a study group member violates the netiquette, what do I do?

    If a study group member violates the studyconnect netiquette and does not stop their behavior despite the other members' requests, please contact our support team at studyconnectmail-uni-mannheim.de. We will review the situation and reserve the right to exclude the person from studyconnect.

  • How do I leave an existing study group?

    If you no longer wish to be part of a study group, delete your request on studyconnect and also leave the MS Teams group.
    To delete your request on studyconnect, go to “Study Groups”. Select the study group and go to “Details”. Click on the “Delete” button. Once the request is deleted, you can submit a new request for the module.
    Also, leave the MS chat.

  • How do I leave a Teams group?

    In MS Teams, your various teams are displayed as tiles under the “Teams”. In the top right corner of the tiles, there are three dots. Clicking on them will open the option to leave the group.

  • How do I delete an ongoing request?

    You can delete a request with the status “Search ongoing” by clicking on the “Delete” button under “Details”. Once the request is deleted, you can submit a new request for the module.

  • Why do I no longer have access to studyconnect?

    • The reason may be that the platform is currently not available due to technical issues. In this case, please visit the website again at a later time. If you are encountering any technical problems, don’t hesitate to contact our IT support at itsupportmail-uni-mannheim.de.
    • Another reason could be that you have been blocked from studyconnect due to repeated violations of the platform’s netiquette, despite warnings from our support team. Violations of the netiquette can be reported by other studyconnect users. The support team will then contact the reported person via e-mail.
      If you believe you have been wrongly blocked, you can contact our support team at studyconnectmail-uni-mannheim.de.
    • After you have been disenrolled and your university ID has been deleted, you do no longer have access to studyconnect.
