Hi, I'm Aylin and I'm currently in the first semester of the master's program in Teacher Education with the subjects German and Political Science. While I learn about and discuss important and realistic topics in the political science modules, my second subject, German Studies, allows me to further deepen and expand my love of literature through a wide range of lectures and seminars with dedicated lecturers. In addition, the university offers great opportunities for experiences abroad, which I definitely want to take advantage of during my master's program.

Why study the master’s program in Teacher Education?

The master’s program in Teacher Education is the last step any future teacher completes at university. While the overall scope of the seminars and lectures in the two main subjects chosen is somewhat more limited than in the bachelor's program, there are more courses in Educational Sciences in the master's program. To make the educational theories and tools more tangible, the mandatory placement semester takes place every fall/winter semester. Within twelve weeks, you will get an insight behind the scenes and into the activities as teachers. To round off the course of study, a master's thesis must be written at the end of the master's program. This can be written in one of the two chosen major subjects as well as in Educational Sciences.

Personally, I chose the Master of Education program at the University of Mannheim, because I already liked the bachelor’s program very well and it was therefore a natural decision to finish my studies here too.

Studying at the University of Mannheim

  • What's special about the program?

The University of Mannheim is an excellent place to train to become a teacher. The courses are very varied and focus on courses in Education Sciences. The integrated placement semester is also an extraordinary feature in Mannheim.

  • Extracurricular activities

Even if the master’s program is very time-consuming, there is usually enough room to get involved in either one of the departmental student committees or student organizations and meet new people.

The departmental student committees and student organizations offer a variety of events every semester. Probably one of the most famous events is the Schneckenhofparty, which takes place every Thursday on the university campus. You can also meet new people at poetry slams, flunkyball tournaments and other events. The University of Mannheim also has a great sports offer that covers almost all team sports and individual sports. Most courses are free. There is also a gym nearby, which you can use against payment of a small fee.
