Why I chose this program
The study of Psychology includes basic research, applied subjects and methodology. The fundamental subjects such as social, learning, personality, motivational or perceptual psychology often provide theories that you can use in the applied subjects such as Work and Organizational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Consumer Psychology or Educational Psychology. Psychologists further need profound knowledge of the methods to empirically and scientifically deal with these topics. That means you will learn how to evaluate research results mathematically and interpret them critically.
Perhaps, it is difficult for you to choose a field of study because you are interested in many areas. In the end, I chose Psychology because it allows me to combine my diverse interests. From social skills and mathematical analysis to business and clinical applications, Psychology offers a unique range of opportunities to discover the processes that are the basis of our everyday life.
In Mannheim, we offer two study options from the fourth semester onwards. You can either focus on application areas (option I) or the clinical direction (option II). If you are still at the beginning of your studies, you have the opportunity to decide which option is right for you by attending orientation events in the third semester of the bachelor’s program.
I am already realizing how much more Psychology actually is and would prefer not to commit myself to just one area. I hope that you get just as enthusiastic about psychology!
