Career

Between 2005 and 2015, after completing my studies of Business Informatics in Mannheim, I was a consultant and junior partner in Digital Practice at McKinsey & Company in Germany and Canada. From 2007 to 2009, I also pursued a doctorate in Technology and Innovation Management at the Technical University of Munich. Between 2015 and 2018, I was Chief Information Officer (CIO) at ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE and supported them with improving their content output and monetization on all channels. From 2018 to 2020, I was the managing director of MediaMarktSaturn Technology where I was responsible for Technology Foundation and Analytics. My priority was the establishment of a modern IT infrastructure for the entire group as well as the advancement of MediaMarktSaturn to a data-driven commercial enterprise. Since 2020, I have been Chief Digital Officer at BAUHAUS and I am responsible for the expansion of e-commerce and its integration into in-store commerce.

Tips for starting your career

In my experience, a fulfilling and successful career is defined by three things: being passionate about your job, having the talents required for your tasks, and a sufficient demand for your profession on the labor market. I was very lucky all these demands were met: I am very interested in technology and entrepreneurship, which is why I studied Business Informatics. Today at BAUHAUS, I am responsible for establishing a technology-based company—my dream job. My mathematical and analytical skills allow me to successfully pursue this goal. The ongoing digitalization process leads to a high demand for this profession and brought along many promising career opportunities. I hope that every student is equally happy with the subject and career they chose.

Relevance of the studied program

Technology is constantly evolving, and new business models are emerging. My role requires me to observe new developments and assess whether they are relevant for our company, for example, whether we should use blockchain technology, become a marketplace, or establish a delivery service. To do so, I need to familiarize myself with these topics and continually educate myself. Today, I still benefit from the fundamental knowledge and methods I acquired during my studies. They are the pillars of my professional career.
