Career
In 1997, I completed a Diplom degree in Business Informatics at the University of Mannheim. Then I started working for a company specializing in mechanical and industrial engineering. I started as a sub-project manager in charge of an SAP implementation project. After I had gained some professional experience, I became the head of the new “SAP Inhouse Consulting” department that was to be established. Over time, I was head of different departments in the area of applications and application support. After 17 years working for this company, I became Chief Information Officer (CIO) and still occupy this position to this day.
Tips for starting your career
Skills that I have found beneficial in retrospect: curiosity coupled with an open mind for change; intrinsic motivation to broaden one’s horizons; not encountering things with too much doggedness but recognizing and seizing opportunities; enjoying what you do; focusing on social and community skills because, at the end of the day, IT is created by humans for humans.
Relevance of the studied program
Thanks to my studies, I was able to start my career. Not to mention the different responsibilities, it was the combination of business administration and IT knowledge that turned out to be very valuable for me and, together with many years of professional experience, helped me reach my current position as Chief Information Officer.
