In contrast to previous US recessions, more women than men have lost their jobs during the coronavirus crisis in the US. This is a finding of a new study by Professor Michèle Tertilt and three other researchers which analyzes the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on women’s employment. It is likely that the higher unemployment among women increases the gender pay gap even more, thus limiting women’s career opportunities in the long term, the authors say.
