Professorinnenprogramm 2030: University Supports Women in Academia

The University of Mannheim’s equal opportunity strategy convinced in the first round of the Professorinnenprogramm 2030.

The aim of the nationwide Professorinnenprogramm 2030 is to retain more women in academia after they have completed their doctorates and to increase the proportion of women in professorships, top academic positions, and management positions at German universities. At the end of February, an independent review panel has decided on the submitted equal opportunity strategy: The equal opportunity strategy, goals, and measures of the University of Mannheim were convincing. The university will now be able to fund three tenured W3 professorships for women professors and implement the measures set forth in the equal opportunity strategy.

“I am very happy that we have been accepted into the program, which will allow us to work even harder to support the academic careers of women,” says Professor Dr. Thomas Fetzer, Vice President for Equal Opportunity at the University of Mannheim.  The program for women professors not only supports the careers of the women professors but also the equal opportunity structures at the university. In previous funding rounds, the university could use the funds provided to implement effective equal opportunity measures.

In total, the federal and state governments provide funding in the amount of 320 million euros for the Professorinnenprogramm 2030. The highest funding amount is 165,000 euros per professorship per annum for a maximum period of five years.
