Trans* Action Weeks Rhein-Neckar 2022

On the occassion of this year’s Trans*Action Weeks of the cities Mannheim and Heidelberg, a range of events is taking place from the 12.10. to the 27.11.22

Again, countless groups from the Rhein-Neckar region joined forces to create a colorful program for the Trans* Action Weeks 2022 [1]. Thanks to their involvement, a broad and varied repertory of events formed, that invites you to get a glimpse of the diversity in the living realities of trans* people.

The project is aiming to make trans people more visible, but also to empower and strengthen them. Therefore, many offers are open exclusively for trans* people and queer people, for example the workshop ‘Religion and Queerphobia’ or the empowerment workshop ‘Superpower trans’. Other events are also open for straight and cis people [2] or even specifically offered for them. The ‘Word Up! Poetry Slam – FLINTA* [3] Special’ or the ‘Presentation for cis People’, for example, would for sure be worth a visit. Next to workshops and presentations the program also contains concerts, movie nights and much more (only available in German). Even though many events will be in German, checking out the program could be worthwhile to spot a sports event or checkpoint that sparks your interest.

The events are framing the International Transgender Day of Remembrance at 20th Nov, that is paying tribute to people worldwide that died at the hands of trans violence. The day centers trans violence and discrimination persisting also in Germany, that trans* people must deal with on a daily basis. At 20th Nov, there will be a commemoration march taking place at the Paradeplatz, Mannheim, as part of the Trans* Action Weeks 2022.

[1] trans (adj.): someone that was assigned a wrong gender (for most people) at birth. The asterisk behind trans* replaces the many possible endings for the word trans (i.e., transgender, trans genderqueer, trans man). [2] cis (adj.): someone that got assigned with their fitting gender (at birth).

[3] FLINTA* is a German acronym, including all people, that aren’t cis hetero male. F: female people; L: lesbian people; I: intersex people; N: non-binary people; T: trans people; A; agender people; *: everybody that is not included by any prior group but that still is part of a group being marginalized on the basis of their gender identity.
