Professor Dr. Thomas Fetzer will take office as the new President of the University of Mannheim on 1 October. The newly elected Vice Presidents will take up their positions at the same time.
At this year’s Universitätstag, President Professor Dr. Thomas Puhl gave an overview of current developments at the university. He honored Dr. Dr. h.c. Manfred Fuchs on the occasion of his 85th birthday and awarded the University Medal to Dr. Susanne Fuchs and Stefan Fuchs. The university also honored outstanding achievements in teaching with the teaching awards.
The University of Mannheim has adopted its strategy until 2028: The new Strategic Plan (Struktur- und Entwicklungsplan, StEP) defines the university’s strategic goals and the measures to achieve these goals. Since 15 May 2024, the University of Mannheim has been an official member of the European University Association (EUA). This is another step of the University to permanently increase its visibility in the international research community.
In March, the two-year audit was completed, and the university has received the Stifterverband certificate. The completion of the audit marks an important milestone in the university’s endeavors to promote diversity.
The Open Science Office at the University of Mannheim, founded in 2021, will be made permanent after three years of start-up funding. This decision underlines the University's clear commitment to transparent and reproducible research and its active role in promoting Open Science.
