Universitätstag 2024

At this year’s Universitätstag, President Professor Dr. Thomas Puhl gave an overview of current developments at the university. He honored Dr. Dr. h.c. Manfred Fuchs on the occasion of his 85th birthday and awarded the University Medal to Dr. Susanne Fuchs and Stefan Fuchs. The university also honored outstanding achievements in teaching with the teaching awards.

On 19 June 2024, about 170 invited guests from science, economy, and society celebrated the Universitätstag of the University of Mannheim in the Aula of the Schloss. In his speech, President Professor Dr. Thomas Puhl thanked the university's researchers, teaching staff, employees, students and supporters for their commitment and extraordinary work. He also gave a brief insight into current developments in research.

Professor Dr. Puhl also gave a speech to honor the entrepreneur Dr. Dr. h.c. Manfred Fuchs and to thank him for his many years of sponsorship and support for the university.  As a visible sign of gratitude, the University of Mannheim dedicated a Caucasian wingnut in front of the Ostflügel of the Schloss to Manfred Fuchs. According to Puhl, it is one of the “most beautiful and magnificent trees” on campus.

During the event, Dr. Susanne Fuchs and Stefan Fuchs were awarded the University Medal. The university awards the medals as a thank you and as recognition for outstanding commitment to the University of Mannheim.

Outstanding Achievements in Teaching

The university also honored outstanding achievements in teaching with the teaching awards: Professor Dr. Simone Paolo Ponzetto, Chair of Information Systems III: Enterprise Data Analysis, Professor Dr. Marc Debus, Chair of Political Science, Comparative Government, Professor Dr. Thorsten Meiser, Chair of Research Methods and Psychological Assessment and Dr. Ross Ogilvie, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Chair of Geometric Analysis received the award for the exceptional quality of their teaching.
