Feminist interventions in Wikipedia

Chris Regn & Daniela Brugger & Dr. Maja Linthe

Final event with discussion on relevance, representation and gender sensitivity in Wikipedia.

For two semesters, a Wikipedia writing workshop was conducted at the University of Mannheim by the collaborative project Who writes his_tory?, which offered an introduction to editing Wikipedia and then addressed issues of gender equity. In parallel, Maja Linthe offered two main linguistics seminars that also addressed gender bias, the gender gap, and interaction in Wikipedia. The students of the seminars and other interested people could learn in the writing workshop how to create an article page and what to pay attention to.

In our final event, we would now like to once again bring together practice and theory on the topic of gender in Wikipedia. We have invited linguist Eva Gredel, professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen, whose research also deals with Wikipedia and gender justice issues, as well as the experienced Wikipedians Leserättin and Grizma, who have been giving lectures and interviews on Wikipedia for a long time and are active in feminist Wikipedia networks. The short talks will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Chris Regn (Who writes his_tory?). The event will be held in German.
