University of Mannheim Honors Outstanding Teaching Achievements

This year's Teaching Award for extraordinary teaching achievements is conferred to three lecturers from the School of Social Sciences and the School of Law and Economics.

The University of Mannheim regularly evaluates its lecturers and their courses to maintain the excellent quality of teaching. Lecturers receive valuable feedback from their students that they can use to revise and prepare their courses. This year, three lecturers are honored for their excellent evaluations. All three of them motivate their students with thoughtful teaching models and achieve outstanding learning results. Prof. Thomas Gschwend, holder of the chair of Political Science, Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences, receives the Teaching Award in the category “Professors”. In the category “Mid-Level Faculty Members Holding a Doctoral Degree and Junior Professors“, the Teaching Award is conferred to Dr. Meike Bonefeld, post-doctoral researcher in the working group for quality of instruction in heterogeneous contexts, and Prof. Nils Schaks, junior professor of public law.

This year, the admissions committee decided to confer the award in the category “Mid-Level Faculty Members Holding a Doctoral Degree and Junior Professors“ to two lecturers. “The fact that we conferred the award to two lecturers underlines the exceptional teaching quality at the University of Mannheim and how hard it is to differentiate between lecturers,” President Prof. Thomas Puhl says. The lecturers have also addressed the different proficiency levels of the students in creative and diverse ways.
