Zero Tolerance for Harassment and Violence

The “No to harassment” initiative of the Department of Gender Equality and Social Diversity of the University of Mannheim raises awareness of the issue of harassment and offers advice for those affected. In addition, university members have now been trained for more safety in nightlife as part of the “nachtsam” campaign of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration.

Going out is a fun part of student life and should be possible without experiencing harassment, abuse, or violence. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The “nachtsam” campaign of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration is working on improving safety on nights out. A newly created coordinating office organizes trainings for institutions and hosts in the Land of Baden-Württemberg to give staff members more confidence in helping to make nights out fair and safe. Before the start of the semester, members of the AStA and the departmental student committees of the University of Mannheim participated in these trainings. The training raises awareness about the topic by providing staff members with information material for difficult situations.

The “No to harassment” initiative of the Department of Gender Equality and Social Diversity of the University offers additional information and help for university members in the restrooms on campus. The Department of Gender Equality and Social Diversity is the initial point of contact and offers counseling services in cases of sexual harassment and/or discrimination. Counseling is confidential (safe space) and the counselors are happy to offer support for taking further steps.
