“Shaping diversity” – Invitation to participate in Diversity-AGs on 12.10.22

Open meeting on 12.10.2022, 15.30 via Zoom. All interested students, university lecturers and employees from science and administration are cordially invited to participate in the development of a diversity strategy for the University of Mannheim.

Over the next two years, the University of Mannheim will undergo the Stifterverband's “Shaping Diversity” audit. The goal of this audit is to strengthen diversity at the university and the individual development of its members. Barriers based on origin and migration experience, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, social background, age, disability and chronic illness are to be further reduced. Engaging the diverse perspectives and experiences of university constituents is central to this participatory process.

We therefore cordially invite all interested students, university lecturers, doctoral candidates and employees from administration and science to participate in the Diversity-AGs.

The Office of Equality and Social Diversity cordially invites all members of the university to the open diversity meeting via video conference / zoom conference:

Wednesday, 12 October 2022, from 3:30–4:30 p.m.

In order to be able to include as many stakeholders as possible, we would like to offer a catch-up date on Tuesday, 18 October 2022 from 10:00 – 11:00 am (also as a digital zoom conference).

For both dates, please register at lucas.dembinskymail-uni-mannheim.de (project coordination). We will send you the conference link after registration.

During this event, there will be a short briefing on the Diversity Audit. Afterwards, the new Diversity-AGs will be established for the first time. The WGs are structured according to topics and will formulate proposals and develop new measures in the coming period.

Cooperation and participation in the diversity audit “Shaping Diversity”.

An important cornerstone of the audit is its open process character. The working groups organize themselves independently and are accompanied and supported by the project coordination as needed. Participation is also possible in phases or with interruptions (e.g. stay abroad, internships, exam phase, vacation, etc.). Interested parties can join the work of the AGs at any time. If you are unable to attend either of the two information dates and are interested in participating in a working group, you are welcome to contact the Diversity Audit project coordinator.

Further background information

Over the next two years, the University of Mannheim will undergo the Stifterverband's “Shaping Diversity” audit. Various stakeholders from across the university are actively working together on the initiative and under the leadership of the Vice Rector for Structural and Developmental Planning, Internationalization and Equality. In the course of the participatory audit process, active and interested university members are given the opportunity for information, exchange and participation in order to jointly shape and further develop the university diversity strategy for the coming years. In June and July 2022, the first workshops took place, which were accompanied by an expert moderator from the Stifterverband. The university management discussed various strategic fields of action together with students, teachers and employees. Based on this, the participants developed a catalog of measures. In the next step, the individual measures collected will be developed into concrete proposals in thematic working groups. Information on the diversity audit can also be found on the website of the Department of Equal Opportunity and Social Diversity.
