Students of the bachelor’s program in Mathematics in Business and Economics explore a variety of topics. Being confronted with new problems each day and discovering different facets of mathematics every time is particularly intriguing to me. The program combines lectures with exercises courses and tutorials, which creates a pleasant learning atmosphere and helps you internalize and apply what you have learned. Mannheim also has a lot to offer outside the classroom – no matter if you prefer to stroll along the Planken pedestrian zone, go to a Schneckenhof party, or dance the night away at a club in the city center.
The reason why I like Mathematics in Business and Economics so much is that you need both a general mathematical understanding and the ability to think like a businessperson. With these skills, excellent career prospects are guaranteed. Business, Economics, and Mathematics: a perfect combination in a digitalized world! Often invisible yet irreplaceable, mathematics can be found everywhere in our daily lives and in economic processes. Be it artificial intelligence of smartphones, weather forecasts in apps or on TV, online advertising on social media, or delivery routes for online shopping: all of this would be unthinkable without mathematical tools.
In the bachelor's program in Mathematics in Business and Economics at the University of Mannheim, students do not only acquire knowledge in mathematical fundamentals and techniques, but also learn to place mathematical questions of different kinds into economic context. The main areas of focus are applied fields such as stochastics, optimization and mathematical finance. At the annual MINT-Marktplatz fair, many of our students are recruited by our partners before even graduating.
The University of Mannheim offers an extraordinary international environment. The majority of students spends a semester abroad at one of the numerous partner universities during their studies.
In order to maximize student success, we have developed special learning methods, for which our professors have already received awards. For instance, the tutorials accompanying our lectures are individually adapted to personal interests, and YouTube videos come into play as an additional learning tool. From the second year onwards, you can contribute to the study progress of your fellow students by becoming a tutor yourself.
During their studies, students can already test and apply their mathematical skills in statistics and artificial intelligence in the scope of cooperation projects with companies. Together with professors, the Students' Association for Data Analytics & Statistics STADS works jointly on questions set by our cooperation partners in business and economy. You can take part in STADS activities right from the first semester.
Career opportunities
With their knowledge of two different disciplines, Mathematics and Business Administration/
Economics, our graduates can choose to work for a variety of employers, for instance banks, insurance companies, financial service providers, tech startups, fintech providers, industrial enterprises, and management consultancy firms. However, starting work right away isn’t your only option. This degree also qualifies you to continue your studies in a master’s program, for example in the master’s program in Mathematics in Business and Economics (M.Sc.), the master's program in Mathematics (M.Sc.), the master's program in Economics (M.Sc.), the Mannheim Master of Data Science (M.Sc.) program, or the Mannheim Master in Management (M.Sc.) program.

In our selection process for the Bachelor's Program in Mathematics in Business and Economics, we take the following criteria into account:
- the grades achieved in German, Mathematics (double weighting), your best foreign language, and your best scientific subject,
- relevant work experience and extracurricular activities.
