Research Skills – Research Data Management Seminars

This course introduces participants to open-weight model services, ChatAI (GWDG Chatbot) and maKI (Uni Mannheim API service) available for researchers. It explains how to gain access to these services and demonstrates common use cases such as brainstorming, transcription, summarization, and using AI as a sparring partner for research and writing.

The session also explores the practical application of AI for research data management. Using a metadata schema – such as DDI for the social sciences or a schema from BARTOC – as an example, participants will see how a chatbot can assist in creating and completing metadata records. Through hands-on examples, the course discusses both the potential and the limitations of using AI to support metadata creation.
