CDSE student Marina Hoch among finalists for ECB Young Economist Prize

Our warmest congratulations to CDSE student Marina Hoch, whose research earned her a place among this year's ECB Young Economist Prize finalists!
In her submitted research work “Bailing out homeowners: government aid and mortgage default after natural disasters”, Marina Hoch examines the welfare effects of government aid to homeowners after natural disasters. Using the U.S. as a case study, she finds that aid improves welfare overall, despite introducing distortions, and that decoupling rebuilding grants from insurance coverage improves welfare further.
Alongside 9 other finalists, she was invited to present her research at this year’s ECB Forum on Central Banking in Sintra, Portugal, which was themed “Shaping Europe’s future: innovation, growth and stability”.
The ECB Young Economist Prize is highlighting outstanding economic research in relation to euro area and ECB policies that demonstrates innovative thinking and scientific merit as well as a connection to the Forum’s annual theme.
Following her selection as a finalist for the ECB Young Economist Prize, Marina will complete her dissertation in July and join Deutsche Bundesbank. We warmly congratulate her on these achievements and wish her every success in the next stage of her career.
