Sandra Schlumpf-Thurnherr ist Assistenzprofessorin für Iberoromanische und Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft am Seminar für Iberoromanistik der Universität Basel. Zu ihren aktuellen Forschungsgebieten zählen die Sozio- und Migrationslinguistik, Spanisch in Afrika, Sprach- und Varietätenkontakte sowie Sprachideologien und Glottopolitik. Äquatorialguinea steht im Zentrum ihres Habilitationsprojektes zur soziolinguistischen Situation der äquatorialguineischen Gemeinschaft in Madrid und ihres SNF-Projektes «Improving the visibility of Equatorial Guinea as a Spanish-speaking country».
