Grading
1.) Presentation (50 % of final grade)

• Setting: Group presentation (~3 students per group), with individual grading
• Presentation of a scientific paper (max. 12 minutes)
• Subsequent questions/discussion (~20–30 minutes)

Have you ever wondered what it takes to launch a successful airline? In this course, you will tackle exactly that challenge by developing a concept for the relaunch of the former LTU International Airways, one of Germany's best-known leisure airlines, which ceased operations in 2009. Working in teams of four to five students, you will assume the roles of key airline departments and collaboratively develop a realistic strategy for establishing a modern airline in today's highly competitive aviation market.

The case study covers the entire spectrum of airline operations and management. From market analysis, route network design, fleet selection, and crew planning to business strategy, sustainability, regulatory compliance, and financial planning, you will address the complex decisions that determine an airline's success. Throughout the seminar, you will combine analytical thinking with creativity while ensuring that your solutions remain operationally feasible and commercially viable.

The seminar emphasizes teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based decision making. It provides a unique opportunity to apply the concepts learned throughout the Airline Operations Management course to a realistic industry scenario and to gain valuable insight into the challenges faced by airline executives when trans­forming a strategic vision into a functioning airline.
